Okay... new thread as this is not a rant but a question for all - especially the Lindens.

I already "reported" my disbelief at receiving what was essentially a "fly by" (but actually targetted) neg at Misty Rhodes' gathering today.

As someone who wanted to be aware of the online status of this griefer, I just checked the online status of the same individual and was startled to note that since "she" negged me, she had negged 27 OTHER PEOPLE!

What can or will be done by the Lindens about this?

Theoretically, this should be a TOS violation of acceptable behavior - certainly this individual and any and all alts owned by that individual should be suspended - don't you think?

27 of us in under 6 hours can't ALL have been "worthy" of a neg?

Lindens - you want self-government? Are you willing to allow us to take this kind of thing to some sort of judicial body with the POWER to suspend access or even PERMANENTLY BAN a person from SL? If not, then any calls for self-government aren't worth the electrons it takes to display them on my screen.

What do you guys think my fellow residents? Is there any more clear issue concerning the intersection of self-governing. griefing "rights" to access secondlife?

How many of you think this will garner zero comment from any Linden?

You might get a response from Hamlet; the rest of the Lindens probably won't see it here.

The below "standard response" to my abuse report is why I hold no hope for any form of effective self-governance in SL..

"Residents of Second Life may rate other residents at any time, positively or negatively, deliberately or arbitrarily, for any or no reason. Ratings abuse is possible, but usually involves extortion or group ratings attacks"

Being the stock response by LL IAW the TOS concerning griefing in general, ratings in particular, the only rational conclusion is that LL really couldn't give a shit about ratings - whether as a form of abuse or not. Such griefing doesn't affect them publicity-wise, so why should they give a shit?

If they can't or won't govern when they are the only entity with the power to do so, then self-governance is no more than a mere pipe dream. They certainly won't delegate actual power to others so that self-governance is possible. That would mean a loss of income.

Korg,

don't worry about it.. the whole ratings system is going to be completely overhauled from what i'v read. the Lindens are working hard at creating a system that resolves the current problems and creates new positive dynamics.

don't worry, be happy. :D
