SS:.) in Second Life I will hang a big poster on the wall with a MKDS tourney bracket and a poster next to it with all the rules of the tournament. When people play Mario Kart DS, instead of meeting on AIM or other instant messenger, they will meet in Second Life. Everybody who is a part of the tournament will get a free DS in SL. They would go to the tournament room and stand next to each other and their avatars in Second Life would each be playing a DS (letting others in SL know that they are in a match). At the end of the match each player drops a notecard into the "result box" that will be set up by the bracket saying who won.
Basically, once entered in the tournament, each player will check the bracket to see the SL name of the person they are playing against. It is then their responsibility to meet up with the other person sometime over the following week and submit their results in the official "result box." At the end of each week, I will update the bracket with the current results and we will repeat this process until the tournament is over. This will require 8 or 16 people to be a success.
Who would be interested in participating in something like this?
MKDS doesn't take very much bandwidth, Nintendo did a good job with that.
