Hi everyone!

I'm kicking around the idea of organizing a Settlers of Second Life Tournament if there's enough interest in it.

For those who don't know the game, Settlers of SL is based on the RL board game Settlers of Catan. It's played with 3-4 players on a board composed of hexagonal tiles. The object of the game is to be the first player to score 10 points. Players earn and trade for resources (prims, textures, scripts, land, lindens) which allow them to build houses, shops, and roads or hold events to gain points. For those who've never played before, I have a table set up at Villa Bilbao Art Gallery in Zeuzera (107, 167, 114) with some pretty good tutorials, if you'd like to check it out.

If you'd be interested in playing in a Settlers Tournament, could you post here or send me an IM in-world, and let me know you're interested, and when's a good time for you play some games?

Cheers!

I'd play sl again for a night or two for this, but you have to organize it so we can work it around life. I know a few others who might also play.

I'd love to play a tourney. The problem is: It depends of the time.

I mean, I think that the hours in wich everyone is in SL, are almost the hours in wich I have to go to sleep (Why earth is not like a disk, so we could have the same hour in every place? :P), but if it is well organized, and I can compaginate it with sleep hours and the thing I have to do in RL, conunt with me ^^

Yes, the game exists, and it is a faithful derivative. I had a lot of fun playing it.

I've been offline mostly for the last week due to work, but I'll be online this weekend mostly during the evening. It's a 3-4 player game, so we would need to find one other player. Here's a link that has a picture of the game board.

omg, that's amazing!

I used to play Settlers online daily. I have not stuck any money into SL yet, but I was kicking around the idea of hiring somone to design that. I'll try to catch you on the weekend.

so if I read correctly, this game has been out for one week? how many players are there?

oh, and it would me much more effecient to just rank SoSL players on Cases ladder

http://www.casesladder.com/

that lets everybody get ranked based on how good they are, and how much time they spend on it.

Actually, SoSL has been out for the better part of a year. :)

is there a gathering place for SoSL players, or is it ad-hoc?

People set up games by talking over IM in the Settlers of Second Life Players group.

Yes!

Actually, that's a great idea... If you're interested in the Settlers of SL Tournament and have a group free, it'd be great if you could join the Settlers of SL players group. Just go to FIND button -> GROUPS tab -> Search for "Settlers of Second Life Players" and hit JOIN NOW. It's open and free to join. As Aliasi mentioned, it's a good place to IM for players to get a game together, and also will help for keeping in touch regarding the SSL tournament.

And yes again! The game has already been created in Second Life, by Lex Neva and Sprite Quartermass. I leave a table out at my gallery, Villa Bilbao Art Gallery, which is in Zeuzera (107, 167, 114), if you'd like to pop by and have a look or a try a game. Everyone's welcome.

I am in the process of collecting best game times for everyone interested in playing in the tournament, so we can start coordinating games. I'm thinking about a 50 or 100L or so "entrance fee" to go toward a winner's pot. Any thoughts or preferences?

I'll take a look see. When I get the chance. Just to see if I really should try playing the game or not.

Settlers of SL Tournament Registration Details
06-08-2006 21:41
Hi everyone!

I'm starting registration for the Settlers of SL Tournament. The entrance fee is 50L and all of the fees will go towards a winners pot. Unless there's a huge explosion of interest, we'll probably register a maximum of about 12 or so players to keep the tournament to 2 rounds. One round for everyone, and one round for finals.

FEES: L$ 50 entrance fee + L$ 11 for each tournament game

TO REGISTER, IM Selaras Partridge to say you're registering for the Settlers Tournament, and send me the L$50 entrance fee.

GAME FEES:
I'll ask all players to play Tournament games on a Settlers table at my place, Villa Bilbao Art Gallery in Zeuzera (107, 167, 114). To make it clear to everyone that it's a tournament game being played and not a practice game, I'm asking all players to pay L$11 to the table. The L$11 from each player goes to the game pot which the winner gets. This way, I can easily check who won each Tournament game from my Account History Details. If you want to play for fun or practice or whatevr, please feel free, but just bet any other amount. (:

Since I'm organizing, I won't be competing, but maybe a few of us will join in on sideline games that won't qualify for the tourney. I'll update this thread with more Tournament details as we go, but let's start registration so we know who's in!

Registration is progressing nicely, but I forgot to post the deadline for registration in the SSL Tournament.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE is Monday June 12, 2006.

This deadline may or may not be extended for extenuating circumstances, but hopefully we'll be done by then and can start some competitive settling ASAP!

TO REGISTER, IM Selaras Partridge to say you're registering for the Settlers Tournament, and send me the L$50 entrance fee.

Cheers, everyone!

Registration Complete for SSL Tourney!
06-13-2006 21:38
I've finished registering everyone for the SSL Tourney. 10 players will be competing. Round 1 games will have 3 - 4 players each and are tentatively scheduled as follows:

ROUND 1

GAME 1 - Wednesday June 14 @ 6:00 PM SLT
Players: CK, VD, SN

GAME 2 - Thursday June 15 @ 4:00 PM SLT
Players: EK, NC, AS

GAME 3 - Friday June 16 @ 1:00 PM SLT OR Wed June 14 @ 1:00 PM if all available
Players: KD, AZ, SM, PB

When you play your tourney games, please bet L$11 each every game. The winner from each Round 1 game will proceed to the Final Round. The Finals game will likely be scheduled for Sunday June 18 around 3:00 PM SLT, but will be confirmed with the finalists.

The Grand Prize Winner of the Final Round will win the L$500 prize and their own Settler board game, as well as the L$33 or L$44 pot from each individual game win.

If you have registered, please check your offline IMs -- I've sent notices asking everyone if they can make these assigned times. Also, I've listed the players above for easy reference. The initials of all players are unique, so if it matches yours, and you registered for the Tournament, that's you!

Good luck, Settlers!
(:

Sel

PS. We may be accepting up to 3 late registrants in addition to the original 9. Late registrants, if any, would be added to make 4 person games in Round 1, and the prize pot would increase accordingly. This post will be updated as late registrants are added.

Tournament Pics!
06-29-2006 02:03
I took some pics during the Finals game and forgot to post them!

There's one pic with the three finalists in the heat of battle, with some pony onlookers cheering on the players and me watching from the sidelines. Notice the other game of Settlers going on in the background -- I think they were too busy fighting their own battles to notice the tournament game. :D

And here's one of our triumphant Tourney winner, Shirley!

Enjoy the pics, all! Cheers!
