I would like to up the performance of my Macbook Pro. I have read the posts on how to run a faster Mac. Not sure they pertain to Macbook Pro's. In crowded area's with lag I GET ABOUT 5 FPS. In lag free area's I run about 10-11 fps. What settings should I be using for best performance?
Thanks,
Scar

Hi there, I find that the biggest single difference is to minimize the draw distance.

1.10 is Universal Binary

New version is Universal Binary and shouldn't have to run in Rosetta. So it's supposed to be a lot faster. Us PPC folks would love to hear you report back on your performace!

Well, I have been on the Alpha UB since it came out so I don't see that much of a difference. Maybe someone who was not can report on that?
Oh, my draw distance is 96, should it be lower?
Thank you,

unless you are looking at a nice view, there's nothing much wrong with 64m. Having said that, there's another thread here that says that draw distance makes less difference in 1.10. I haven't seen any evidence one way or the other...

From: someone In crowded area's with lag I GET ABOUT 5 FPS. so would anyone ! From: someone In lag free area's I run about 10-11 fps This is really appalling and suggests a problem, I'm guessing it's probably not enough RAM and /or your draw distance is too high for the card. On a 15" G4 1.5MHz powerbook with 1gig RAM I achieve 25 fps and sometimes a little more in "lag free" areas. But I guess it depends on definition of lag. I would expect much better than this on a fully specced MacbookPro. That's 1 or 2 gig ram and 7200rpm hard disk. SL is a memory eater, not enough memory means your disk is being used as virtual memory. I looks to me a bit like a lot of people are buying Macbook Pros straight off the shelf which, for SL, is not such a good idea because ... 512Mb+5200rpm drive = poor performer regardless of lag and graphics card.
