I am trying to help a friend create an SL account, this is what she writes:
<<The last 2 times I tried to make an account at SL, I could not get past the 'create a name page' after which it took me straight back to the 'either login page/create account page'
Quite a while before that I had tried to create an account but when it got the 'duplicate the words/letters in the box' it will never reconize them! I am used to the problem, Nintendo is another site that will not reconise my keyboards, (1 from the Vista and 1 from the new Mac), previous to the change of systems/keyboards I had no problems with this type of system, and with Nintendo now, I simply ask my husband to register on his (old) keyboard in his comp room on his new computer, obviously I cannot ask him to register up for SL in there!!
I am a Daz PA also, so was interested in more than a cursory look, but while my keyboards are not reconised, I simply do not know what to do!>>
and
<<Thanks for your help, though I fear it does not help me . I hated the Vista OS, the machine sits down stairs, practically un-used and totally un-loved!! The keyboard that came with it is my main keyboard now, but as I said before I also tried on the Mac keyboard, my old keyboards require different set-ups and I will not be going back down that long road. I had hoped that the programmers at second life may have found an answer, as if I am having a problem with 2 different keyboards, it surely can be guaranteed that I am not the only one I would have thought
I also tried using Safari on my Mac Pro and on Windows XP Pro virtual machine with no joy!>>
My MacBook Pro offers this advice in the help file but when I try to follow it there is no the "Change Keyboard Type" button.
<<Specifying a keyboard type
When you connect a keyboard that is not immediately recognized, the Keyboard Setup Assistant automatically opens so you can specify the keyboard type (ANSI, JIS, or ISO). There are three keyboard types that Mac OS X recognizes: ISO (Europe), JIS (Japan), and ANSI. The ANSI keyboard is a standard 101-key layout widely used in the US, North America, and many other parts of the world.
If you are having trouble with your keyboard, you may need to specify the type manually. You can use Keyboard & Mouse preferences to open the Keyboard Setup Assistant and specify the keyboard type.
To specify the keyboard type:
Open System Preferences and click Keyboard & Mouse.
Click Keyboard.
Click the "Change Keyboard Type" button.
Follow the steps when the Keyboard Setup Assistant appears.>>
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks...
