hi !
I don't have performance problems on my 12" pbook, but it crashes every few minutes, literally, sometimes just unexpectedly quitting, sometimes with a kernal panic.
OSX 10.4.2, 768MB RAM. Nothing else running at the time. Any suggestions ?

I crash on my PowerBook 17-inch with 2GB's of RAM. I wonder if this is just because the specs on a PowerBook are just not reasonable enough for a stable SL gameplay. Now, I don't crash as often as you do though but I do crash. Most of the time when SL does crash I have to "Force Kill" the game and resetart the game. There have been a few times where it hard crashed my system completely frozen and I had to reset the machine itself with the power button. My thoughts is that the game runs the laptops WAY too aggressively as mine gets PRETTY hot while playing SL and the fan is most likely running at its maximum cause I can hear that sucker running. Just an FYI, I run on 10.4.2 as well.

I've been running on a 15" Pbook for almost a year without any problems. If you're getting kernel panics you have a greater problem than just SL. If you're unsure how to diagnose what's causing them I'd advise you get your machine checked over by an expert asap Kernel panics can be caused by hardware problems and or software, simply too wide a scope to diagnose in a forum like this. But really, get your machine a health check!

plenty of speed to run sl... however, do you have other apps running in the background? i would also quit any quittable menubar extras running - desktop pictures too, if you have them rotating every 5 secs or so. and also concur, if you haven't a maintenance routine on your machine yet, that's a likely culprit - i use 'macjanitor' first ('cocktail' is recommended by some too) for the regular unix maintenance (read the readme for details), then 'disk utility' (from the system cd; can't fully treat your launch drive unless you start up from cd) to 'firstaid'/'repair permissions' on all your drives/partitions. clears up many mysterious issues, sl and everywhere else. and how's your drivespace, btw? if you've got less than a gig left, the game cache might be playing havoc with your memory/drivespace (since virtual memory is assumed always on in os x); does it seem like a lot of disk activity while playing? (menumeters is a good menubar extra for tracking basic cpu/disk activity, too. clear out some space, if needed; might also help. (sorry i didn't note the 12"book, but the same things should also help too. good luck!
