Can't Log In - Region Handshake failure

I've been on SL about 2 months with no problems. Yesterday I suddenly could no longer sign in. During the log in process the progress bar stops at "Waiting for region handshake" then after about 15 seconds stops logging in, with the error message: "We're having trouble connecting. There may be a problem with your internet connection or the Second Life servers. You can either check your internet connections and try again in a few minutes, click Help to connect to our support site, or click Teleport to attempt to teleport home."

I've logged in with my MacBook and I can get in fine, so it's not an account issue. It's clearly specific to my iMac, but I don't understand how. I haven't changed anything with the OS or the hard drive. I tried trashing the SL Viewer and application support files and reloading (no luck), downloaded the new Release Candidate (no luck), and the CoolViewer (still no luck). Then I tried downloading an older version, 1.21.6.99587. Yep, no luck.

OS X 10.5.7
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
Chipset Model: ATI,RadeonHD2600
Type: Display

Does anyone have any advice I can try? I submitted a support ticket but, since I'm just a Basic account, I don't expect to receive a reply.

I'm on a MacBook Pro and am having the exact same problem. And I've heard of other mac users running into similar trouble. I submitted a ticket (and I'm a premium account member... so they are replying). So far we've determined it's something to do with OSX. It runs on the windows partition fine. The support tech forwarded it to the "escalation team." So hopefully it will be resolved too.

Also heard of other net-based programs not working on MacBook Pros. Like the SlingBox Viewer... and others.

Have you tried selecting a different region to log in to?

Yep, I've tried:
Uninstall/reinstall
firewall off
firewall on, SL ports open
new region
connected directly to modem
going to someone else's house
safe mode

right now i'm gonna try to use another viewer

Erik - The solution for be turned out to be deleting the program PeerGuardian.

It really was as simple as that. I didn't even try just disabling the program - I just trashed it, and instantly I was able to get back onto SL and haven't had a problem since then.

Hopefully it'll be the same situation for you. Hope that helps.

I did what Colwyn suggested (deleted PeerGuardian) and am finally in after trying to find an answer for over 3 days. Thanks Colwyn.
