just updated to 10.5.6.... hoping in a further gain in performances (SL RC was going quite well... an average of 15-20 fps in a non-crowded Sim) and -stupid me- now SL is completely unusable... framerate drops to ONE in any environment and under any circumstance....

tried with RC 1.22.3, SL 1.21 and Cool Viewer 1.19 (last release)
with VBO OFF, and always get an unusable performance (1-3 fps)

I am alone? Is it a problem of mine or more of a generalized issue with the new graphic drivers in 10.5.6?

try reinstalling SL. I had the same issue on the same system. Now i'm getting even better fps than before the 10.5.6 update, 30-50 fps. with 10.5.5 i would never get more than 15-20 fps.

Wow! That was amazing.

Upgraded to 10.5.6, then did the reinstall of SL, even though it was the exact same SL release, and jumped from 10 - 15 FPS (before SL reinstall) to 45-65 FPS!

And that was with all graphics maxxed, and 8x anti-aliasing.

My system is a Mac Pro Tower, from Dec 2007, with the ATI X1900 card. Hadn't quite realized how much it had slowed down recently, but it sure is fast now!

THANK YOU!

10.5.6 and Vertex Buffer Objects (VBO)
12-31-2008 13:14
This seems counter intuitive but I find that I can ENABLE VBO since the 10.5.6 OS X update and performance is better all round, less heat, better frame rate (3 green lights in Lag Meter with High graphics on).

I think I have had VBO off for at least a year.

Release Candidate 1.22.4
MacBook Pro Radeon x1600 2 gb RAM
Texture memory at 128

Yes, VBO is something a lot of Mac users used to have to disable to get a decent frame rate, but with the new OS and current client, VBO finally works and improves frame rate.

Still gray

I have updated my OS and reinstalled sl. I still have issues the things do not rez fully for a long time. People, object, etc... remain gray for a LONG time. I have found if I click on them, the seem to rez in but that can get annoying to click on every object and person near me.

Anyone else have this?

From others I talk to on PC's I think this is a general SL issue in the last two weeks, not just Mac
