I have been noticing poor bandwidth thru-put according to the status bar. I am showing 15-20 kbps. At the same time I test my DSL bandwidth by running the speed test at Bandwidth.com and find I am getting 440 kbps.
Can anyone explain the discrepancy between these 2 numbers? Is it an issue with SL in genral or the Mac client in particular?
Thanks

From: Blue Tsuki speed test A speed test will tell you what you _can_ use, not what you _are_ using.. If you're running XP, fire up the task manager (ctrl-shift-esc) and click on the Networking tab - that'll show you what you're currently using.

you can set a bandwidth cap in your SL preferences. make sure its up high. also, if youre on a home router, that will allocate bandwidth based on all tasks running. you may have another task running thats taking preference. DSL is also tricky, bandwidth.com may or may not be measuring your actual bandwidth to your home. My old DSL provider tried to tell me i was fine, when i was getting slower than dialup speed. I had to cancel because they refused to admit that they had an exhausted router in my area. theres a great tool for the mac dashboard, called iStat Pro. itll give you a real-time stats of the bandwidth coming into your system, and its free. Theres also the Activity Monitor in your apps/utilities folder. http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.htmlhope this helps
