Your best course of action is to try it out for yourself and if you have a local mac store you can get down there and install sl on one of their machines to test
![]() I'm considering an imac too and intend to do this once they have the higher end machines out in the stores. |

No problems on a 2007 MacBook Pro. Been in SL since June, 2007, running several businesses off a laptop Mac.

An iMac with a good graphics adapter will run SL very well. Get something better than the Nvidia 9400M.

Alternate viewers like CoolSL, , Kirsten's S18, Emerald, and SnowglobeFE run great on a Mac! These folks are dedicated Mac developers and fine tune the code for our babies.

opengl is my friend

A fairly new iMac with the NVIDIA 9400 chip : both Greenlife Emerald and SL 1.23.5 were crashing on startup.
So I decided to try the OpenGL Profiler hack for the MBPs and now all is fine ! I set opengl to the GeForce4 v1.3 NVIDIA-1.4.0 setting and ignore the "unknown graphics device" message WOW - best SL platform yet !! |

I use a Dell PC and a Power Mac with similiar specs. I prefer the Mac. I agree with Sophia, however. You should go down to your local Mac store and test it out for yourself.

Someone warned me i should stick with a pc because all in one computers don't do well with sl. Advice? people say this type of things about All-in-ones because they are usually lower end to fit in tight spaces, kind of like a laptop. For a similar price as an AIO, you can get a basic machine that will run it better, because it has bigger faster more heat producing parts in it, since it has much more room to actually cool them.... all that said, current iMacs can run SL just fine.... but the 27"ers should run it pretty good, I'd love to have one of those. |

I tried to Google it but couldn't find anything. Thanks! |

iMac 3.06 4GB Ram, Emerald Viewer. No problems at all, graphics set at High most of the time but copes with Ultra as well. Old PC crashed all the time, but it was old technology and ropey ATI card, not really a fair comparison.

Using imac G5 keeps me crashing
11-23-2009 15:01
It can be frustrating to get 10 minutes into SL and hear my processor working too hard and then crash. I have 2GB memory, 1.8 GHZ HD, run Tiger, and NVidia GE Force 5200. My computer at work is almost the same: 1.6 GHZ HD, but runs Leopard and will play much longer. Do you think it is just the OS? I am thinking of buying a PC just to play SL . . .

woefully underpowered

your old mac is pretty dated and way underpowered for SL, time to upgrade your puter.
