My dual 1.8 G5 once in a while will SL well enough I will stay inworld for hours. Sometimes, not. Well I had bought an ATI Radeon 9800 pro card (that was one of those PC cards flashed for Macs). I recently bought two LG 22" widescreen LCD's. My G5 has started showing green and purple lines all over my monitors. I switched back to the original Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card and the lines went away, (as well as the connection for my second monitor).
What do I look for in a card? There are so many variations and I don't understand al the jargon. Some cards that have the same details listed are several $100's different in price.
And what about these PC cards flashed for Macs?
I'm thinking about the Nvidia GeForce 6800 or 7800. Any comments? Is the GT version different? 6800GT vs 6800
And what is PCI vs PCIe? Are they compatible? As near as I can tell my G5 is PCI, not PCIe or PCI-X, right? I do know this G5 is 8x AGP.

you'll be looking for a G5 compatible AGP card.... AGP is outdated, newer cards are all PCIe.. they are not cross compatible in any way, they are physically shaped different. There is not much of a better option for a G5 than a 9800 you tried. Lines like that is often a screwed up card, bad in some way, not just an incompatibility.... there are not much options for video cards for G5s...

Greens and purple lines indicate that the card is faulty. Perhaps due to overheating.
I have the same problem with my G4. While I would replace my 9800 card, how can I justify spending money on what is essentially a $300 Mac?

Does AGP refer only to Macs? If I find a card listed as AGP does that mean it is NOT a PC card?

No, AGP was used in both Macs and PCs. You'll need to find the Mac edition of the card, or a PC card that can be flashed for use on a Mac.

The fastest card available for AGP macs is the nVidia 7800 GT, which is flashed and works fine, but not really great with SL (Anti Aliasing borked, and it lags a bit in crowds and the like). The thumbs down is the price, which is 300 US Dollars or so. It´s available on eBay.
