Sticky keyboard in Boot Camp XP?

I'm having major problems with my Apple keyboard using both the First Look (the last 2 or 3 versions) and now the official updated SL client in Windows XP thru Boot Camp.

The keyboard commands sent to SL are not getting thru smoothly causing either a huge delay before typed-chat appears or, even more annoyingly, a 'jammed' effect so that my av' spins or walks uncontrollably. It's made SL unusable under XP, not the end of the earth cos i always have OSX but annoying anyway.

The keyboard is new(ish) cos i spilled coffee on the last one, it works perfectly in any other XP app (including the previous official SL client), I've just updated to Boot Camp 1.2 with no difference (except better ATI drivers!) and I've tried connecting the keyboard thru various USB ports - nothing makes any diff' so far.

Any ideas? Is it just me?

Maybe you did this, but I'd suggest attempting to reinstall the bootcamp drivers in safe mode in XP. XP's system file protection often will rewrite back over certain driver files if they are not properly uninstalled before being replaced. These files are not in protected mode when in safe mode however. I've seen many systems crippled by this ridiculous fault in XP's system security.

btw, it runs perfect in bootcamp for me. Apple's touchpad drivers arent the best yet for xp, nor the audio drivers, but it runs solid and stable.

Cool, thnx for the tip - I'll try it later today.

I noticed that the Boot Camp Assistant lets you save the Windows drivers out into a folder (instead of burning a CD) so I'll try with the keyboard drivers.

I'll post my results later in case it helps anyone else....

OMG, I hate Windoze....

An hour of battling with Windoze in safe, or any other, mode is enough to ensure a lifetime of Mac-use for any sane person.

Needless to say it didn't help - you can't install a lot of the BootCamp drivers in safe-mode cos the installers want to access the Windows Installer Service which isn't available to you in safe-mode. Managed to install some and it made no difference.

I'm back to blaming SL since this is an isuue only with specific versions of SL, the more recent First Look clients specifically and now the official client. Whatever user-input setting LL changed needs, for me at least, to be changed back.

However life is too short to worry about dodgy XP installs, back to sanity and the Mac....

yikes, that blows. I hadn't realized the new driver pack had come out until later yesterday....I've been using the older beta, but will give them a shot today, if only to serve my touchpad better!

I believe that you must have your reasons to run windows on your Macbook Pro. I have a Macbook Pro myself, too. And I do have Bootcamp and Windows XP running.
Although why do you want to play SL on Windows side when there is a Mac version of SL available?

Why run SL in XP? Good question - nowadays it's only because there are a couple of useful tools for SL which are 'doze-only (like SLTunes) but originally it was just to see the difference, if any.

Of course there are minor differences but not enough to justify rebooting into XP to achieve. If LL wrote a proper native version of the client for OSX instead of just porting everything from the 'doze one it would be better - might achieve the same or better framerate as XP. Maybe some enterprising OSX developer will rewrite the open-source client so it runs more efficiently on the Mac, I'd pay (a little) for that...

BTW, I'm running an Intel iMac not a MacBook Pro - you've just reminded me I should have mentioned that at the beginning of this thread...

I totally forgot about those third party programs. I haven't thought of trying any of those. I used to be a 100% windows user and I just crossed over to the Mac side 3 months ago and I don't really want to try or install any thing on the windows partition on my laptop just in case if there are any unwanted junk that might some how affecting the performance of the whole laptop.
