Camera Controls too gross per click

I have recently switched from a Win2K machine to Mac Mini. The SL camera controls (HUD, not alt-arrow) have a HUGE step for each mouse-click. (Side-to-side or up and down, it's nearly a full screen width or height per click, zoom in/out or rotation is not quite as bad, but still gross.) This compares with a finely controlled stepping on the Win machine. (BTW, I use a Logitech two-button, scroll-wheel trackball USB mouse)

Using the alt-arrow combinations work better, but only provide the zoom and rotational movements. I can't find the combination for up/down and side-to-side straight-line movements.

Question1: can the HUD controls be fine-tuned? I've tried to find adjustments in the client menu and in edit>preferences, but to no avail. Is the problem in Tiger?

Question2: what's the key combination for straight-line movement?

Try each of option-arrows, ctrl-option-arrows, and shift-ctrl-option arrows to see how each moves the camera (the last is the panning i think you were looking for). For this (and many but not all other things), the Mac version of SL treats the command (apple) and ctrl keys as synonyns.

Thank you -- The 4-key combination gives the movement I was seeking. This works much better than the HUD, although the steps are still bigger than that on the PC. (Wonder why) However, it is at least possible to work with it in building, etc.

arrow keys?

to move the camera i Alt click on stuff, and move the mouse.

If you Ctrl+Alt click and move the mouse it moves up and down and left and right, and you can use scrolling on the pad/mouse for zoom.

Thanks for the input. I use an old trackball -- i hate movable mice -- and when manipulating the camera with the ball, it is not as precise as with the arrow keys. I use it your way when panning or following an avatar, but it's not as useful for precise positioning.
