Got this link from my brother - maybe something for us all that uses Mac in SL??? http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/broadbandtuner10.htmlAbout Broadband Tuner The Broadband Tuner allows you to take full advantage of very high speed FiOS based Internet connections that have a high latency. The installer tweaks some system parameters. /Tina - Owner of the brand [EXAKT]

This Broadband Tuner basically tweaks a few kernel parameters that allow you to get better performance on a broadband connection.
For some unfathomable reason (let's call it tradition!), Windows, Macs and even Linux come with their kernels fine-tuned for modem connections, not broadband.
I have seen a huge improvement (ie. well over 50%) on broadband connections without packet loss. Sadly, my own cable connection has quite a bit of packet loss, and the difference is not so great, I think.

Thanks for the advice, PetGirl. Yes, there are reasons why the Mac kernel is not "fine-tuned" but has "average" settings which will work for everybody without problems. Tweak it a bit, and well, you're on your own Weird Things Can Happen.

Working fine for me - though I must say I can't really see the difference. It's not screwed anything up though.

If you have installed this software and are having problems you can re-install it and it will run the uninstaller. I will try this out today (after the outage is done) and see if it does any good -- or worse, bad!

Apple Broadband Tuner

Hey, Brent I tried it on my Dual G5 with a 8Mbit cable connection. Did not notice any difference in performance. So, I ran the Uninstaller. (Like to run a clean machine.) E.
