Improving Quicktime Performance?

I'm wondering if there are any ways to make quicktime movies playable in SL? I was watching a low bandwidth (150kbps) movie in SL but the sound kept cutting out and it would go very slowly, with packet loss appearing in the SL client (when that disappeared all would be fine again, but it could take up to 20 minutes with me leaving it and doing something else, drawing in my case).
I have a 2mbps connection, so 150kbps shouldn't be an issue for me, and on PC clients performance seems to be fine on connections of that speed with higher-res feeds.

Are there any setting for Quicktime or for SL that people have found make quicktime playback less pain-staking?

It may not be YOUR problem. It could be the source.

At the time the movie is created and saved, there are some parameters that should be set for smooth playback in real time while online. Without those parameters, the movie is 'just another file' and must (should) be completely downloaded to your local drive before playing. Turning on the 'Stream for Web Viewing' in the saved movie is very important. It signals to the receiving QT that it should buffer the movie to ensure smooth playbook.

Also, the SENDER should be using a 'streaming' protocol server to send you the movie. Not a web server or web page. but a Streaming Media server. (VLC comes to mind.)

Do you have the URL of the movie source? Take a look in QT with Info and Movie Properties. If the Movie was setup to STREAM, you should not have this problem.
but if it's just a normal file, then, 'yes', you'll experience drop outs as the movie plays.

The recent example was a movie from sl video bank, which all seem to be set-up fine, I just kept getting bouts of packet loss in SL which seemed to result in slow video performance. Do the quicktime streams route through SL actually? I know they don't come from LL, but are they downloaded by the client and then display, or does Quicktime handle that externally?
