Says "not enough memory" and won't save changes.

Hi! Whenever I try to create my "head", it won't save anything I do, saying I need to create room on my computer, as there is not enough memory. But I have 20 gigs of space on my hard drive! Surely that is enough. Well, overall, the whole thing is acting wonky, so I don't know if it is the SL program, or something I need to set or change on my end. I'm using a G4 iMac, running OS 10.3.9. BTW, it crashes after a short time. Thanks for reading.

...hi nancy!..

...the crashes you're experiencing are a known mac bug, scheduled to be addressed in tomorrow's 1.7.2 client update...

...as for your 'not enough memory' error, i believe that you're confusing hard drive storage space with actual physical RAM in your machine...second life requires 512 megs of RAM, but i can tell you from my own experiences running with 512 megs on a dual-G5 tower that that's barely adequate - 768 to a gig or more of physical RAM makes a *world* of difference...

...i know it may seem crazy to run out at buy RAM just for a game, but with memory as cheap as it is these days and software system requirements continually inflating, you might look on this as a good excuse to upgrade your machine...in fact, that's what i'm planning for myself, this week...

part of the bug that "hopefully" will be addressed tomorrow are erroneous "out of memory" and "disk full" reports that seem to happen when the cache fills or the client can't open any more files for whatever reason. My solution, until the fix, is to regularly log out and delete the contents of the cache folder ...

~/library/application support/secondlife/cache/

I guess logging out and quitting also releases the lost memory the client is leaking.

You may find when you first quit ( or more often crash in my case ), that the Finder will not respond for a while. I often can sit and watch the progress bar as the Finder attempts to delete files in the cache and has to wait for the system to recover from whatever SL client has done to it. Fingers crossed for tomorrow !
