Since there are more game focussed PC graphics cards out there ( ie faster), than those BTO in the Mac store, is it currently possible to simply buy them and install these into the MacPro (either running MacOSX or even Windows XP) ? I read somewhere a month or so ago that this would require a hack, which is beyond my level of understanding.

The main reason being to maximise the performance of SL on a MAC platform ?

You cannot use PC cards in the Mac Pro. The cards need an EFI firmware which isn't compatible, according to a website I read (barefeats.com). EFI I guess is like BIOS.

They aren't hackable.

The best option available from Apple is the X1900 from ATI (512MB) which I have. It is only about 5-10% slower than the brand new card they just put out - the X1950. And that card is basically the fastest single graphics card in the world at the moment.

The X1900 is plenty fast.
