Question :)

I recently got Zbrush on my mac, however, I want to know the technique of how most of you, if any, get the sculpties to work in Secondlife.

I know there is a converter for windows only ( I don't know why they can't make two versions ), but is there anything for a mac?

I want to try and make sculpties for SL, but I need to know how to get them out of Zbrush and properly exported into the game.

Thanks to anyone who answers, I would love a solution! ^^

I export the Zbrush tool as an .obj file and then import into Maya to create the .bmp sculptie file, but I'm guessing you're looking for a cheaper option. I'm pretty sure there isn't any sort of way that doesn't involve importing it into another program. Perhaps check out Blender? I haven't tried it, but I *think* the sculptie plugins that have been created work for Mac too. Another way is the program AC3D. That I have used and know it works well for Mac, but it'll cost you $75. There is a demo on their website also.

You might also try Wings3D and Omei Turnbull's sculpty plugins.

Keep in mind that you would need to load the premade, sculpty-friendly Wings3D objects into zBrush as your starting point, sculpt in zBrush, then export as .obj to be converted in Wings.

I would guess that the person who created SculptyMaker doesn't own a Mac and/or is not familiar with programming on a Mac. I believe that 2k has even offered the source code to any Mac-savvy programmers who would like to help convert the program.

Thanks for the replys! ^^

I got as far as getting wings to have the plugin to export, however then I came across another problem.

What do you do when wings3d says that the object is an unsupported mesh? It won't let me export because it keeps saying that.

Thanks again! ^^

Like many sculpty converters, the plugin for WIngs is very particular about the shapes it will convert. The plugin comes with some objects that are properly configured to convert to sculpted prims. You need to start all of your sculpting with those, and then be careful about how you edit them. No Extruding or other actions that change the number of faces on the objects. That forums thread about the WIngs3D plugin will have a lot of info about how to work with those shapes.

So, for just shy of $600 it doesn't have the ability to import and export .OBJ files???

Holy crap, that seems weak. That's akin to going out and buying Photoshop, only to not be able to load or save GIF files.

You can import/export .OBJ Files. You need to choose export under the tool menu and then export your tool as an .OBJ, which is the default.
