hey guys. i am quite new to SL and this is my first posting. since the last update of SL i have huge performance problems...especially since sunday!

this is my crash report:

sigh.... what shall i say?
this is the third day in a row that i have HUGE HUGE HUGE problems with the performance of SL.
first: i have a brandnew iMac20 with 2GB RAM, 128MB grafics, intel core 2 duo 2,16GHz

my problem:
every evening, mostly while doing nothing but standing around or shopping (no huge crowds or lag), my Mac crashes. then i have problems logging in. if i log in, my char doesn't load the shape, the skin, the gestures and hair etc... it tries to load that stuff (it says so at least) but is doesn't succeed and SL crashes again. i can repeat that 100 times in a row... no chance! i am in the game for about 1-2 minutes then but as i cannot teleport and sometimes can't even walk...
i found out that other people can offer me a teleport to their place and that works. as soon as i teleport all stuff loads and i can play. only all gestures are deacitvated. as this happpened repeatedly this must be a bug concerning my account. i only hace this since the new update.

today:
the problems got even worse (i didn't know this is possible). i couldnt log in at all!!! one time it said that the login package was not received by the server. the other time it said my comp wasn't connected to the internet i should try the homepage. (of course everything else worked) if i suceeded logging into SL i coudnt so anything although i saw m char properly and also the inventory but i could neither walk nor teleport or fly. i could just turn my char around. i tried at least 50 times to log in. 6-7 tomes it worked but i couldnt do anything then. noone could interact with my char (hug for example). all other chars in that area could walk and teleport etc.

now...since 2 hours i cannot play SL but keep crashing after a few minutes or can't even log in!! it seems like the login server was down but it only affected me.

i have no clue what to do or how to solve this problem. i am very dissapointed that SL performes so badly since the update!! before that i had no problems.

please help me....or tell me in which forum to address this. thanks in advance.

edit:
just now i tried to log in and received this: "unable to connect to SL. DNS could not resolve the host name. please verify that you can connect to the www.secondlife.com web site. if you can, but continue to receive this error, please go to the support section and report this problem"
YES i have this repeatedly!!

which report section?

hi there, wow u have a lot going on!

re: my Mac crashes. then i have problems logging in. if i log in, my char doesn't load the shape, the skin, the gestures and hair etc... gestures are deacitvated.

i would suggest clearing your cache in preferences. start up SL but don't log on, go into preferences. go into the Network tab and click on clear cache. Then go into Advanced Graphics, and where it says (near the bottom) Outfit Composite Limit, change that to 0. that might help with these problems.

regarding your logon problems, that could be a couple of things. again go into the Network tab and make your maximum bandwidth what you have and if you have the diskspace, make your cache all the way to the maximum.

i don't know a lot else regarding tricks for logging in. my password got all messed up so i was having problems. AND today there seems to be a lot of crashes. i rarely crash with my mac and have crashed like six times today.

good luck. if something helps, let me know, it's good to keep in mind!

SL feels very sluggish here too...

What's the bottleneck on the intel mac's?
My guess: a slow network, not enough ram, video card too slow...

Does it run better on a windows computer?

I got a CD macbook pro, 256mb video ram, 1 gig ram...

SignalChef and Isnogud,

The problem isn't with your Mac. Over the past few days I've been noticing many of the same issues on my PowerBook; massive packet loss (resulting in VERY slow/jerky movement, aka lag), several crashes/freezes, etc. The problem has to do with the SL Mac software.

One thing you can try is to completely delete the SL software. Delete the program and also the SL stuff in: your user name/library/application support/second life. Just delete the entire Second Life folder. Then download and reinstall the SL software.

Keep in mind that for a few hours after a major update the system is overwhelmed with everyone trying to log in. This may be the cause of your inability to log in. Sometimes it can take several tries before you get in. I usually just wait a few hours till things settle down some before trying to get in.

(of course, this assumes that the latest "update" hasn't completely screwed everything up and that your internet connection is working properly)

My money is on the latest whups-date. I've crashed more in the last 2 hours than I have in the last 6 months combined. I have a year-old intel iMac with 1.5GB of Ram, and it's been stable and steady as a rock on SL all this time. Now tonight, 1.17.whatever has it totally useless. The asset server problems are one thing, I've seen that come and go where you can rez, take, buy, or save anything. But this constant crashing is intolerable.
