Huh!
This sounds like what Mac folks would call a PREFERENCES file is missing...but that shouldn't happen. Seems like the one from your last session should be there.

I'd run DISK UTILITY on my harddrive. Especially if you see this message a lot.

Then I'd go to ~library/Application support/Secondlife/ and delete the whole folder.

You'll be a little slow loading SL next time as it builds a new cache.

It's called settings.xml now, not settings.ini.

and, yes I have one in ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings/ on my macbook pro.

I'm on an Intel mac, too.

The 'settings.ini' file was DROPPED from SL in July,2006. It is now 'settings.xml'.
You should not need 'settings.ini'. If you have one, you can safely erase it.

If the problem persists, try deleting the entire SL folder at:
~library/Application support/Secondlife

If the problem persists, Bug Report it. That shouldn't happen, near as I can tell.

HOWEVER. I re-read your note more carefully. The message is coming from the 'crash reporter' not from the Second Life viewer. The crash reporter is simply parroting back to the Lindens the state of your mac when SL crashed and died. The missing 'settings.ini' is NOT the reason you crashed.
