I have a four year old MBP, actually it was one of the first ones to ship and I did not have the graphics problem that some did later on. But this old work horse is getting tired. I was looking at the 17 inch MBP today. Graphics card is this:

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB

Is this a good graphics card to run SL? Or should I ask for a different one if I custom order it?

Thanks,

The 9600M GT is the best graphics adapter you can currently buy in a Macbook Pro.

...and the 9600 is pretty good, too. In fact, the 9400 is "good enough" according to me.

The 9400 runs cooler and uses less power, so is good when you are on battery.

so your MBP that is almost 4 years old (none of them are 4 years old yet) just isn't cutting it? Well the 9400+9600 has been the only options for a long time now in MBPs... so if you can wait, I would, because most likely the next upgrade of MBPs early next year will have possibly i5/i7 CPUs as well as faster and better GPUs.... I wouldn't buy a MBP right now at all unless you just cannot wait.

Yes, mine will be 4 years old in March? I joined SL shortly after I got it.

Thanks,,
