I try manytime to uploding image from iphoto....but i never succsess.....
some suggestion...

Save the image as .jpeg or .png first from i-photo, then import that into SL.

hey
the image_size must be "power of two" 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024
as i know the smallest size to upload to sl is 32x32
i would recommend png_format
i use graphic_converter to scale/rescale the image ie (800x600 -> 256x256)

try to loading....but i get massage
