HELP!!!!! I have upgraded from a G4 i-book (4 years old) to the new Macbook running Leopard (10.5.2). I hoped that access to SL would be faster with less problems ie crashing using the new faster machine & OS. However, I cannot open & load SL. I talked to support and they say that they do not support the graphics card (GMA X3100) and told me to go to the Intel site to download a driver but I cannot locate what they mean. Has anyone else had or got a similar problem & found a solution? Help much appreciated.

Ive talked to people who say the x3100 macbooks run SL ok. Only problem I know of is if you did a migration, where it copied stuff over from your ibook to your new machine... SL gets hosed. Need to remove everything under the Applications Support/SL folder, default at "/Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/Secondlife"

Many thanks for the tip - I did transfer all files from my old ibook to the new macbook so this might be the problem. I will do as you suggest & remove all SL files and see what happens. Strange that SL support say that SL does not support the x3100 graphics card! Many Many thanks for helping out!!!!

From: Barziban Castaignede Strange that SL support say that SL does not support the x3100 graphics card! Many Many thanks for helping out!!!! No, not so strange, and it's a good sign. When you list a system requirement, it's much better to err on the side of being conservative. In some systems, the x3100 card won't work, or requires lots of workarounds to make it work. As opposed to listing it as a supported card and having lots of people with problems, Linden chose to say it's not supported. It's actually a better idea than he reverse. Anyway, hope you get running quickly.

most people make the mistake of thinking that "supported" means it works, and "unsupported" means it doesn't work. Thats not the case. unsupported just means they dont support it, or test it, or care if it works. If it works for you great, if it doesn't, oh well... The problem using unsupported hardware that works, is some day in the future it may stop working because of some update they do, and then there's not much you can do.
As far as I know. the GMA950s and the GMA3100s in the Macbooks have always worked.... so far...

Thanks for the advice on the migration Missy - saved me a lot of time and trouble - and no little heartache - when it appeared my brand new MBP wouldn't run SL. Trashing that folder made it all OK.
I love forums.

Thanks for the help. I was having the same problem and now SL works beautifully. I was starting to get worried because I have investments in SL and my old IBook's monitor stopped working. Your solution completely solved the problem.
