Dual Dual Core 3.0 GHz with 4 GB RAM and the 7300 GT video card (so so, but by no means the fastest thing out there)...

With detail and options maxed except for aniso (off) and draw distance set at 64, i get around 12 FPS at club arena with video playing and audio streaming on when on my MacBook Pro (256 MB VRAM with 1 GB RAM).

On the Mac Pro, I was averaging around 22 FPS with all video options maxed out and Draw Distance on 256m. I was a little puzzled to see that I still couldn't enable Avatar Vertex Programming on either machine, but other than that, looked good.

If LL takes advantage of the multithreading hooks, SL could really rock on these new machines...while still having plenty of horsepower left to run Photoshop and/or (insert your favorite animation program here) without your machine slowing to a crawl...especially if you take advantage of the multiple internal drive bays to add a second drive so Photoshop can have a second drive for its scratch disk.

While joe n00b won't need a box like this, it'd be great for serious content developers.

I just noticed that the grid was taken down for asset server problems shortly after I logged on to test out SL on the Mac Pro yesterday. Because of this, I will wait til the grid stablizes from the updates on Wednesday and give her another go on Thursday and report back with my findings.

Besides turning green with envy.... congratulations on your new MacPro. These machines rock the winsocks off any top of the line off-the-shelf PC out there. I was reviewing the tech specs and performance results yesterday at the website.

http://www.apple.com/macpro/

I am considering the configuration with the ATI X1900 XT (512). While the nVidia card is great, the ATI X1900 has approximately 3 times the Vertices (1.2 billon) and Fill Rate 9.6 billion) per second over the nVidia card, plus the X2 on the video RAM.

Again, as with the G5, an engineeering marvel.

Enjoy!!

I'd say thanks, but it wasn't mine. I'm at WWDC and they have a bunch of them set up for us to play with.

The 7300GT is considered low-end for gaming, about half the speed of the 7600GT. Can you try out the X1900 and compare?
