Okay, $64K question, anyone even try to access SL via an iPhone?
I have not done any research on this whatsoever, but after a brief look at Google Earth on an iPhone, the idea occurred to me....
Is it even possible?

That could be groovy. Perhaps someone should contact LL about this...nah, not a good idea...seeing as how LL "borked" SL with it's new idea...I think the general consensus is to shut down production on innovation, and fix what's they done broke.

They'd probably have to do a "SL Lite" version for an iPhone, with a bunch less features.
Heck, they should do that now, for those that just want to hang out or IM during the day...

I'm just going through some iPhone documentation now, and you can surf the www with Safari or go direct to YouTube..... It looks like the HW comes with 4 or 8 gigs of RAM, but I don't see any VPU listed anywhere. It does run on OSX, though, so that holds out hope...sort of.
Yep, it might need another iteration of HW development or an "SL Lite" sort of client....

The screen would be kinda tiny with the iphone wouldn't it? I don't think you could do any real building and text chat would be miniscule. Interesting idea though.

From: Klang Wopat But now with voice....! Hmmm. true enough! You never know, I have seen screenshots of Leopard in development that had the SL client installed. The people at Apple are clearly aware of SL enough to test it and maybe they'll develop it to work on the iphone someday. I hope Apple buys LL--now wouldn't that be interesting? Wishful thinking. he he

If Apple bought LL, all the problems would be fixed in a week.

Great, and thanks for the input. I went to the Apple Store a couple days back, and tried to download SL on to an iPhone--got a "Not Enough Memory" error message, so at least it was smart enough to know what was going on.
I also downloaded the client onto a 15" MacBook Pro with the 256 GPU. Took about 8 minutes over the stores ethernet LAN, and ran fine. (I started to download it wirelessly, but it would have taken 45 minutes or so--lots of WAN traffic going on there.)
So, yep, I guess LL has to do a slimmed-down version for PDAs and convergent devices.
I have to admit...I'd rather see Apple by LL than google...LOL!
