Hey, I recently bought a iMac 2.33ghz 24", and have been having great fun with it and SL until recently when all of a sudden SL just stopped doing sound effects. All other programs seem to be fine, but SL just outright refuses to output any sound. (and no, it's not muted in preferences) I've tried everything from uninstalling the program, to manually deleting all the configuration files I could find and clearing the cache, but with no luck. It doesn't work on any SL client i've tried, from firstlook, to the regular to the voice beta grid. I found this guide that seemingly details a similar problem, but I had no luck in getting it to work. http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=450Any idea what could be wrong? Please help

The MIDI fix is incomplete in that knowledge base article.
Open AUDIO MIDI SETUP and make CERTAIN that the audio output is 44100 hz.
If that doesn't work, try reinstalling quicktime. I assume that OTHER sounds will play okay?

I had the same issue and filed a bug report: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-367The solution described by Sterling works flawlessly to me too!

I had issues using the Voice Beta on a MacBook pro, using the Audio Midi Setup seem to have resolved them.

yes, we tried explaining to the Lindens how to fix this problem, I have no idea where that crappy solution in the knowledge base came from, and somehow my name is on it as credited or the fix... I think it was sometime I was helping someone in the Mac chat on SL and some linden just browsed through and wrote that up without having the full details.
My name is on it, and even I rated it as a 1 ...... the Lindens only half pay attention. I think that he was thinking of the fix that sometimes works by opening garageband and closing it right back without doing anything... that sometimes fixes the same problem instead of using audio midi setup.
