MacBook Pro performance issues

I'm running SL on a 2GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM. Things seem to run fine when I boot up, but whenever I use it, things start to get weird after about 20-30 minutes. My framerate will plummet, then gradually return to normal. And strangest of all, after about half an hour of running SL, my system's sound (not just SL, but all audio on my MBP) will become a fuzzed-out wobbly noise full of static and crackling pops... or it'll go away completely, leaving me with no sound on my Mac until I reboot.

These issues have been consistent for months, and they seem to have gotten much worse with the latest update -- my sound died after only 10 minutes of use, and with no other software running but a web browser and Mail.app.

Anyone else having strange MacBook Pro issues? I'm reading mixed reviews of the laptop's SL performance, and I'm not sure how to improve things.

I've used a Macbook Pro (15" 2ghz, 2gb, X1600 256mb) a few times, and my room mate only uses it (its hers) for SL, and has never had any sound problems at all, even after many hours of running. Might be something else going on that SL is just triggering faster.
