I got a new iMac core 2 Duo 24" all was working the best i had ever seen. Now after the latest Downdate SL Freezes the entire computer for a couple of second by the simple act off turning left or right......
This happened once before on the universal version of the client, and Linden imidiatly fixed it...

Is anyone else getting the same thing?

Loki, how high do you have your draw distance set?

Go into your Prefs, I think under the Advanced Graphics tab.

Turing left or right may seem simple (and it should be) but what is happening is a redraw of your screen (SL's view) it may be that your draw distance is too much for your video card.

Its just a thought, no gaurantees.

my draw distance is at 100 - it was like it before the update, and its still 100 after the update.

Thats not that high.

Before I got my new machine I often had it set at 96. SL is a crazy program so here is a long shot, set you number to 96, maybe it is binary sensitive. Clear the cache.

Another idea that may not seem connected but affects SL performance is optomizing the hard drive SL is on. SL makes swiss cheese of drive and lowers its performance because of too much disk access, as well as other apps. A nice defrag makes SL run btter on my machine.

I hope something here helps.

I also use the new iMac, only 20" :(, however I have not had any problems with SL, running smoothly as always.

I bought the 20" instead of the 24" iMac because the 20" has ATI graphics and the 24" has NVIDIA. In looking back on this forum, most all of the "it works fine for me" posts were those were with ATI cards, whereas those with NVIDIA were a mix of "works fine" and "doesn't work". It was an unscientific but instinctual call on my part, and it works fine for me.

Hi,

A few questions related to this thread:

1) What would you guys recommend getting the 20" or 24" Intel Mac? Based on Kiwini Oe's comment, the 20" seems to have the "better" card. I'm also wondering if you think that either system -- since they're not upgradeable -- is a good investment for running SL really well (and other games) a few years from now?

2) Any known problems with running SL on a new Intel iMac? I was reading that SL isn't optimized for the dual-core processor (for example).

Your advice is much appreciated.

Although this would be nice, don't worry about it to much, Adobe won't be releasing any binaries until spring 2007.
