I'm not sure if this is a problem with my internet or my computer. all my other games on my other computers and this one work fine.

ok so here's the deal.
i downloaded SL for my new G5. i logged it, ooohed and awed for finally seeing what it was like to view textures correctly, to experiance no lag. oh yes, it was fun. I logged off, took a break to run to the store for about and hour. i come back, and i can't load second life.
it knocks my net off...(or that's what i see on my modem) I'll make it past the precatching and as soon as i start downloading clothing it kicks me off the internet and i have to restart to get it working again.
now i tried logging in on WoW and it worked fine.

i'm thinking maybe i need to tweak with the prefferences or empty the cache but i was going to ask here first.

Some ideas

The two biggest things:

1) Turn your view distance down to as small as you can tolerate it, ie 64.

2) Turn your network bandwidth down to under 200. It will take longer for things to rez before they are cached, but stuff will stop just overwelming your graphics bus and processor.

I also found that the latest ATI drivers and the ATI control panel have a big effect, ie change the custom setting for the SL app in the ATI control panel to 'speed' over 'quality'. Seems to improve framerates a bit.

Those three things made playing on my old G4 barely possible. :D
