Would it be possible to install mac version SL onto a USB thumb/flash/pen/stick drive, so that I could plug it in and play and not take up lots of space on the mac. If it is possible, how do you do it? I know it is possible for windows. Thanks

USB will be useless for SL because of slow data transfer !! Firewire IS way superior to USB and USB can not touch FW800 !! If you really want to use external drive suggest you look at LaCie products. Have you thought about power supply ? Most USB drives need external power and a lot of Firewire are host powered .... Just one cable !!

SL only takes up maybe 2 or 3GB, that's not that much space.
Flash drives are generally very slow regardless of the connection. A USB 2 port probably won't be the bottleneck, the slow flash memory will be.

It should run just fine from USB, but you need to set the cache location to a local drive, perhaps a RAM drive if the machine has enough memory.
