As some may know my WIndows box blew its motherboard the other day and I am being given a Jan. 8th ship date for the new one. This has left about 15 people sharing 1 G5 Mac to access SL (most of which are clueless about Macs). Is there a comprehensive list of SL keyboard commands out there for Mac somewhere? (most of us are going nuts trying to do simple things like pan and zoom or cut and paste) The other machine we have access to wont run SL at all but if I can find a graphics package that will run on it could be used offline to aleviate the pressure on the G5. Its an old blueberry iBook running Jaguar. Problem is I cant even find a version of Gimp that will run on Jaguar. And trying to compile my own is way beyond my technical ability. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

From: Darkness Anubis Is there a comprehensive list of SL keyboard commands out there for Mac somewhere? (most of us are going nuts trying to do simple things like pan and zoom or cut and paste) They are mostly the same as the Windows ones, except that you typically use the command (apple) key instead of Ctrl. For example, Command+A/Z/X/C/V are seelct all/undo/cut/copy/paste the same way Ctrl+those work on Windows. The Option key generally does the same thing as Alt would in the Windows version. For SL-specific keyboard commands, the same ones that work on Windows will generally work on OS X. Even if you see something that says you need to use Command+X, Ctrl+X generally works too. (In one case the menus even lie to you, suggesting Command+M for map, when that really minimizes to the dock. Ctrl+M works fine though.) For Mac keyboard shortcuts outside SL itself, the major ones are listed in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459 One thing that especially drives Windows users crazy is that Home and End don't always do the same things. Command+left or right arrow will do that job.

Thanks so much that is a huge help. Crossing any platforms can be a rather uncomfy proposition.

Stick with Mac?
01-06-2008 07:07
Normally I'd be saying 'stick with Mac' now that youve tried it with an application 'and don't go back to those 'orrible PCs'. In this case though, in case you haven't noticed it by now, Macs are as vulnerable to SL crashes as PCs and in the case of some set-ups, esp. graphics cards, even more so. On the other hand your own emergency Mac set-up seems a bit under-powered. And wow! You could get a MacBook Pro and run SL under Windows on it if you insisted. So once again the message _is_ clear... change to Mac LOL! Byee! Christi

I have to tell you, even though I've been a one-button mouse person for my whole life of computer use, I recently switched to a 2-button mouse on my MBP, and being in SL is SOOOOOOOOO much easier than messing with the Command key all the time.
There. I said it.
And yes, I now have a (gulp) Microsoft mouse plugged into my Mac, and I wasn't even struck by lightning or anything.

yeah, finally apple puts us to the two button mouse. i can't deal without it anymore.
even in the system it's a lot of help. just rightclick for a selection of open programs is a killer option i think.

I felt the same way about a Microsoft mouse, but after having to use a Mac/Windows combo at work, I had to use a Windows keyboard and mouse. Configuring it for the Mac was easy, and I couldn't live with only one button anymore! I use a Trackball Explorer, which they sadly don't make anymore.
