Horrible Framerate

I have a notoriously horrid framerate and I tend to average around 7.5 -5.0 on a good day. I have a PowerBook G4 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 which is hooked up to Adelphia Digital Cable. It sounds good to me, but I don't really know. I have my settings as low as I dare to make them, but I still have this horrid framerate. I don't hang out in overly high prim or traffic areas, so I don't understand what the problem would be. Please help me! I feel like I'm missing out on half of SL!

Thanks.

The two biggest things I found besides turning down all the detail settings and turning lighting, etc off:

1) Turn your view distance down to as small as you can tolerate it, ie 64.

2) Turn your network bandwidth down to under 200. It will take longer for things to rez before they are cached, but stuff will stop just overwelming your graphics bus and processor.

I also found that the latest ATI drivers and the ATI control panel have a big effect, ie change the custom setting for the SL app in the ATI control panel to 'speed' over 'quality'. Seems to improve framerates a bit.

Those three things made playing on my old G4 barely possible.

I'll have to try those things. G5+6800 is great, but G4+G05200 is horrible.
