Gender change on teleport

Not sure if this is a mac only problem, but when I teleport I occassionally arrive "a little different" in that I am suddenly female! I can use the revert option in the various appearance dialogue boxes, but wondered what was happening.

I am using a G4 iMac running OS 10.3.9 and the latest client (not 1.7) on a DSL connection.

Apparently this is a known bug (from the SL Wiki)
After teleporting, an avatar's apperance is reverted to the default female avatar known as Ruth. This is verified as existing in v1.5.13.

I haven't heard much about this being fixed. I can verify that it still happens in 1.6.12. It seems to occur most frequently to me when I teleport to or from a lagging sim.

I thought I was alone.

I too noticed this occasional... change. I thought it was just me and was all alone, and frightened.

(I was wondering if there was a practical-joke script around. Scarily, "Ruth" kind-of looks like my RL SO... I showed it to her once -- she doesn't SL -- and she said, Oh, that's eerie. )

Why do the guys need the Ruth items to begin with? Is this some sort of Linden Joke for the guys?
I land, (im not the only male avatar either) for a few seconds Im RUTH and its not going away. All jokes asside I hate this and another thing why do all the guys have Ruth clothes, we cant get rid of these things, we cant delete them, we cant give them away, but there still lingering around.

I move Linder Lab give the guys the option of deleting this RUTH crap from our inventory.

Im sure you will see a similar recommendation of this nature on the proposed area to change, unless someone out there has a valid reason why the guys are subjected to such things.

Unfortunately, you cant delete stuff from the Linden Library :/

I get this too and have seen it happen to others, both male and female reverting to Ruth for a bit before correcting. Sometimes Ruth sticks and I have to relog to get rid of her. I was told this is because all avatars are based on Ruth as the primary model, which explains why men have no penis.

I hate Ruth and so does my girlfriend.

I have no reason to think this is a Mac only problem. My GF uses a PC and reverted to Ruth for a few seconds on teleport the other day.

Just an FYI,

If you are Ruthed after a teleport, there is a simple way to get your own avatar back.

Go into appearance mode, then go right out again, by cliking the close button.
The viewer will ask if you want to save the changes, select No

And VOILA your own AV is back.

Being ruthed is out of style. Recent fashons are invisible skins.

If you have a really slow computer you'll notice that EVERYONE is Ruth after teleport. The overrides or mods start coming in. Such as MALE, height, hair, etc. If you use a really slow computer or have you settings set to high, you'll see packet loss. (Left Bar of the 2 in the upper right-hand corner) If you get a lot of packet loss as you're rezzing in you can loose some or all of these overrides. If you teleport into a busy area it's more likely to happen.

The simple solution is follow the guidelines that have been posted for speeding up your Mac. Sorry I don't have a link handy. Also look at what they are having you change. These settings aren't written in stone! You may not have to go that far or you may have to go farther. Find a busy spot that you get Ruthed in a lot and test your settings there. As of 1.9.0 I have not been Ruthed once. If needed I'll post my settings for you but they're close to the suggested slow Mac settings.
