Anyone have any idea whether these will improve SL performance? I am using a G4 powerbook and would consider getting a macbook (as opposed to the too pricey pro) but and not sure that even with the new chips I will see any improved speed. Is the problem that they only have the GMA 950 processor with 64mb graphics memory allocated?
thanks

Even with the speed bump and the new processor, the MacBook isn't ideal for SL because of the integrated graphics card. Although the 1 gig of ram standard will help a lot, 64 megs just isn't enough. I have been using my MacBook for sometime on SL. I have not had much problems. Its problems are on busy sims with lag. I re-boot and lag is not as bad. I am in the process of upgrading to 2Gigs.

I'm running a MacBook Pro with 2 GB, and it's significantly faster than my old G4 Powerbook. Sims where I used to get 6-8 fps or less (with reduced graphics settings) , I can now get 15-17 (with all graphic options turned up to the maximum).
If I cut all my graphics to a bare minumum (Draw distance 64m, fog below .5, object and av sliders to a minumum, etc...) my fps can exceed 50.

Biggest jump for laggy sims is to turn your SL network bandwidth setting to like 200 or less. Trust me on this, it sounds counterintuitive, but it works. Basically the reason sims seem so bad is that the downloading crap is tanking your graphics bus/card, slowing down the rate stuff is downloaded really helps with lag. stuff appears slower, but hey, it does when it's lagging too.

I agree with Prester. I run at 120 on 'Bandwidth'. Helped immensely. For stressful situations, this setting seems to be more about the (ability of your graphics card to process graphics) than about (how fast will I let my network send me data.)
The two are interrelated, but slower graphics card owners should try turning down this setting.

I just updated my 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 to a 2.33Ghz MacBook Pro. SL had been unusable before but it had been pretty bad.
I'm amazed at the performance now.

i have a Powerbook G4 and she runs SL fine for me
i have a bit of a vendetta against the new Macbooks, so i tend to be bias (i'm a web/graphic layout designer, and the new Macbooks run Adobe and Macromedia Suites REALLY slow. i understand this is a software conflict, but it still makes me bias)
