Yes. But not only when I run SL. It seems to heat up when it runs something requires a lot of memory. I sometimes have to switch it off and let it cool off for a while just in case it bursts into flames.

Another thing I have noticed is that when I exit sl and it hangs but is no longer on the screen it still runs hot. I normally run about 40C but sl runs anywhere between 68 and 76C. I use smcfancontrol which does help.

Try making caches smaller

I turned up my caches to make SL run faster. I run ultra hot too. I wonder if I reduce cache size if it will run cooler.

Yeah, my MBP reports temps of up to 220F when I play SL. I have the fans spinning at 6000RPMs to keep it a bit cool, but the heat is there. Just trying to find ways to make the game run smoother on MacOSX.

I used to think that only SL could make my MBP hot enough to fry an egg on.

But I've actually found that even a web site with a buttload of Flash content will get those fans a-turning. Basically, anything that puts a lot of strain on the processor is going to get toasty.

But SL is definitely the prime culprit. Ah well.

iMac too

For a while I was really worried, my iMac was getting so hot I feared the screen would melt.

Finally, everything fried - video processor (attached to logic board, so whole new innards were needed) and screen (fried the LCD panel).

The symptoms leading up to complete melt-down are very much like all the mysterious non-reproducible crashes Macs have been experiencing. Eventually, I couldn't log on for more than a few minutes without completely crashing the OS.

Now that everything has been replaced in my computer (logic board, graphics processor and screen), it runs fine.

My suggestion - install a 1500 BTU air conditioner in your machine, or only use SL in the refrigerator.

Gotta go - I smell something burning again.

My G4 Macbook Pro runs hot running any intense graphic apps.... one time, while play world of warcraft while I was sitting on the couch, the computer got so hot it literally burned my legs! I mean red red burn -- took a few weeks to heal.

If you call Apple about the problem, they will tell you that the Macbook Pro is not a laptop -- but a notebook (though if you search laptop on the apple website, it shows the macbook pros in the results).

Since the computer vents and cools through the bottom it has to be on a hard surface. My suggestion is to get a hard book or surface to put on your computer on while gaming. There's also company that makes a lap cushion for this purpose.

A few weeks after the burn incident, my computer got so hot it melted itself down internally. I sent it to apple and they repaired it. I haven't had the problem since -- however i do hear the internal fan running now from time to time (which i didn't before).

If it's your fan -- send it in for repairs.

Hope this helps.
