Correcting ~/Library/ problems

I haven't been able to log into SL for a few weeks now. I think it might have to with the way my Library is set up. It seems I have 2 libraries and SL is accessing the wrong one for Application Support. Should my Applications folder be 'in' the ~/library/ folder? Right now it's not, and when I try to move my Applications folder to the ~/library/ folder, it tries copying the entire contents instead of just moving the folder.

I sort of have no idea if I am on the right track here. Can any one help out? The error message I get from SL right at start up is "We're sorry, something has unexpectedly gone wrong..."

Thanks for any tips you might have!

Spoke to Apple Support, need help from SL support.

OK, I spoke to the people from Apple. There is nothing wrong with my library files. I got as much out of them as I could. Sounds like Second Life Support people are the only people who can help me now.

I miss the game. I've been without it for several weeks. I've installed and reinstalled about 10 times. My computer is in top shape according to Apple. What else should I try?

Oh I'm so sorry, have you tried to delete everything that's associated with Second Life and reinstall? I know this sounds like the obvious, but some people don't think of it.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

How about create a new user and then install Second Life on that. Sorry if I'm going over the obvious. I just feel for you so much.

You're pretty awesome, you know that? Thanks for helping me out here...

OK, so how do I create a new user name? Do I need to pay for a new account?

Alright, I just started a fresh new account. Same exact problem. "Something has gone wrong" whether I'm Dorian Cain or Mark Farina.

Hmm. I wonder what's going on.

I think April may have been suggesting that you create a new OS X user account. Which is a good idea.

Try this:

Open System Preferences, then choose the Accounts icon. Click the Lock to make changes. Enter your password when prompted. Click the plus sign to create a new user account.

Once you've filled out the fields that create a new user account, click the Login Options button. Make sure "Fast User Switching" is enabled at the bottom.

From there, you'll be able to switch quickly and easily to a new user account. Login to your new account and try installing SL again.

Let us know how it goes.

Alright, I downloaded SL as fresh new Mac user and tried signing in with both user names (Dorian Cain- my old one, and Mark Farina- my new one). Same thing happened. It won't let me log in.

Very odd problem.

Probably your best bet at this point is to contact support@secondlife.com, or call:

My computer had a bunch of viruses. I ran Norton and it fixed it right up. Somehow the automatic scan got disabled and I didn't realize it. Thanks everyone for your help!
