10.4.1 seems to be incompatible with SL 1.6.5+

SL was actually running better on Tiger 10.4 until I upgraded to 10.4.1. Now SL won't launch, the icon bounces in the dock then quits.

Tried: SL 1.6.5.7 and SL 1.6.6(1) both won't run.

So if you want to keep using SL for the time being don't upgrade to 10.4.1

I'm running SL 1.6.5.7 on MacOS 10.4 without a problem.

Check out your "~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/logs" directory. The "SecondLife.log" file should be the most useful. If it's empty, try opening up a Terminal and type the following:

cd "/Applications/Second Life.app/Contents/MacOS"
"./Second Life"

It should print some useful information out to the terminal.

Mine has been working fine too..in fact for a moment thought I was on turbo charge mode. Seems flying might be a little buggy. I keep finding myself way up in the clouds when I go to fly somewhere.

Are you running 10.4.1 or 10.4? When I was running 10.4 things were great, now with the update to Mac OS 10.4.1 it won't run. I've sent a crash report to Linden Labs.

Oops! Yes, I'm running 10.4.1. Did you try looking at the log output?

I'm running 10.4.1 and I am having no problems. I can't suggest strongly enough that you empty your cache. Everytime I've had problems, that's been the no. 1 fixer.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?

Try creating a new user and then installing Second Life under that account. There must be some conflict you aren't seeing if the rest of us are able to run.

Actually I do have a second guest account on my computer that I have set-up for folks to use instead of my main account. It just has the bare minimum, no extra fancy accessories in that account. I deleted the Second Life folder in the Application Support and launched the latest versions of SL, still won't launch.

The only thing left in common with the main user account are the printer drivers (HP) maybe some TechTool stuff (but I quit that via Activity Monitor and still no go). Maybe a few other basic stuff.

Okay, I fixed the problem. I had to use the Find command and I deleted every single trace of Second Life from my PowerBook. Then reinstalled, it runs fine now.

That's wonderful. I think SL can get an old cache even in another folder, I know it did when it was in the trash. I threw one away and didn't empty and when I still couldn't log on, I tried to empty the trash and got it couldn't be emptied because item was in use error. So good, I'm glad you're on.
