Hi,
maybe you can help...how do I configure (Firewall, Ports etc.) my old Airport Base Station do log into SL.
After the update it wont work anymore. ; ( Here is the reply from Linden...
Thanks for your inquiry.
This issue is most often related to a firewall that needs ports opened. The ports that need to be opened are 12020 - 13050. If that range seems to be large, you can limit it to 12020 - 12050 and 13000 - 13050.
The best solution is to allow full connections to the entire Second Life server farm. Each server has its own IP address, and Second Life owns the entire 69.25.104.*, 69.25.105.*, 66.150.244.* and 66.150.245.* IP ranges in order to add more servers in the future, so your best bet is opening 69.25.104.0- 69.25.104.255 and 66.150.244.0 - 66.150.245.255 for future compatibility.
However, with some applications, you need to open the firewall administration and allow full access to the Second Life application.
Also, some firewalls will try to bring up a pop-up to ask you if you want to allow access. This will happen after each update. If you are running full-screen, the pop-up may not come up, and the firewall, at the same time, won't allow the program to go any further. In some cases, this can cause computer lock-ups.
I would recommend running SL in windowed mode the first time it's run after each update. This will allow the pop-up to come up, so you can tell the firewall to grant access to SL, and avoid the lock-up problem.
PLEASE SOME NICE PERSON TO RESPOND... My Internet Connection is via Telekom, Germany
Many Thanks
Dee

As a U.S. Mac User with a pretty poor internet connection, I've had many of the same problems since I joined SL. Here are my thoughts.. Firewalls and routers are, I suspect, the #1 problem for SL users. Most users do NOT have their routers set right, mostly because the older ones, especially, are DIFFICULT to setup. Try these steps: 1. Make SURE the software based firewall is OFF. (System Preferences / Sharing / Firewall / Firewall Off ) 2. Test by using a WIRED connection instead of wireless with the same computer. Use a regular ethernet cable. If it works, then you know its the WIRELESS portion of your router. (note that wireless is NOT recommended by the Lindens) 3. Read: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=029With your router, open BOTH UDP and TCP ports inbound and outbound for all Ports mentioned in the knowledgebase article. Add the full set of allowed IP addresses to ensure that the Lindens can talk to your Mac. See if that helps. I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm just not familiar with how that particular router's configuration is setup.
