A couple months ago, the SL client stopped loading for me. It just sat there and finally said "Despite our best efforts . . . . blah blah blah." This was the previous release version, which had been working fine.
So then I tried installing the current version. Same problem.
BUT . . . I can open SL with Cool Viewer, AND I can open it with Old School on my laptop. Cool Viewer is ok, but overall I like the official viewer better. And, frankly, the fact that Cool is designed for bondage creeps me out.
I opened a support ticket, which was a waste. The tech keeps finding new ways to put me off. I have had to say 3 times "Yes, I can open other viewers." He just finally got around to asking for the second life log. I am very non-tech savvy, but it seems like that would be one of the first things to ask for.
I am on an IMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not familiar with how to do this on a Mac, but you might need to delete your settings.xml file.

Under your home, drill down to Library/Application Support/SecondLife. You can trash *.xml under the user_settings folder, and optionally any under your firstname_lastname folder too. You can dump any folders left over from login typos too, while you're there =)

From: Stormy Pixelmaid They seem to have been set today by Cool Viewer. Is it still safe to dump them? It's safe, sure. When you delete the xml files, your settings do all revert to the defaults and you get all those "hey you clicked the mouse button, that lets you do stuff!" dialogs again. The settings specific to cool will be called something like settings_coolslviewer123.xml, you can leave that in and delete the rest, the normal SL viewer won't try to read it anyway. edit to add: that's just your *viewer* settings that revert to the defaults, nothing about your avatar will change, that's all stored on SL's servers.

I just wanted to post that starting yesterday, I was having the same problem, so I searched for this very helpful thread, and this solution worked for me as well. Thanks, Viktoria (and Stormy for posting the issue)!

I've been having the same issue for 3 weeks now and LL keeps telling me its cuz of my graphics card. I can login with no problem but get kicked off like a minute later.

I trashed everything except the coolviewer file. I worked just fine.
