Just downloaded RC8 and installed it...cannot for the life of me find out why I can't log in. The program opens but when I try to log-in I keep getting the message "Despite our best efforts, something has gone wrong" I've tried it about 10 times, I've tried redownloading both regular SL and the RC8 and nothing is working. Can anyone help me?? Please!

It's besue you're running a PPC .... and they forgot to bother to run RC8 on a PPC before giving it the greenlight.

Feel comforted that you're not the only one here:

It sucks tho because photography is my main source of income on here and I was hoping that RC8 would finally take the place of our beloved and greatly missed WINDLIGHT...but I suppose all I can do is wait for the lindens to realize that there are still PPC owners out here that would like to test the the new clients. Oh well.

Yep, no RC8 on my G5 PowerPC dual 1.8, either. The regular viewer, and OnRez, works fine. But the RC8 doesn't even load the graphics on the the first log-in screen.

to get my regular sl to even come close to the detail i used to get on windlight, I have to run it at mid or high graphics. And i'm running an ATI 9600 so i don't think it's my vid card either.
Also - less crashing and flukes with windlight

1.19 IS windlight.

However, when they made Windlight mainstream, they lowered quality for each setting, so that machine specs that used to be able to run Medium could still (Supposedly) run Medium, once they switched to Windlight.

To get the most out of WIndlight now, you have to be on High or Ultra. I use Ultra, personally, customized a bit (Draw distance mostly)
