I am VERY VERY VERY Jealous! Both the ATI and Nvidia will drive two monitors. There's no reason to buy multiple video cards from Apple, they are cheaper elsewhere. As for which one to buy, well the ATI is a better card--at least on paper. If *I* were writing to Santa, that's the one I'd ask for. Double the VRAM should make SL really nice looking--filled with textures, and shiny shading, and bump maps for long distances of view. Drivers for both ATI and Nvidia have been a little inconsistent, though. And the Mac Pros with these cards are too new for any real experience stories in the forums. **I spoke recently to one of the Apple Gurus, who assured me that the ATI would be wonderful with SL...but 'no', he'd not personally tried it. IF YOU GET THE NVIDIA, IT'LL STILL BE A THING OF GREAT JOY! Be sure to thank Santa! I'd trade you my beloved Mac any day of the week for a new Mac Pro, even with NO video card! And over time, both the ATI and Nvidia will come down in price a lot. I think you can't go wrong with either one.

/Tina - Must try to bribe Santa.. does he prefer Porridge or a bottle of great Bordeaux? Santa prefers a black negligee, high heels, and brandy. The Mac book pro has an ATI 1600/256mb. Gets about 25 fps on a regular basis. I just got an HP9000 notebook with a nvidia 7600/512mb. Getting about 25 mb consistently. Why are you getting a G5 and not an Intel?

Depends how well ATI has improved their OpenGL support, but I'd go for either the ATI, or the dual NVidia cards, both fairly cost effective. Personally I'd probably take the dual NVidia, because you can then later on pop another in, or add a beefier card, leaving your remaining NVidia ones to drive a second monitor or something (or just sell them on eBay!)

They don't test SL, but according to these benchmarks, the 7300 is pretty weak compared to the x1900: http://www.barefeats.com/quad10.htmlBTW, it's my understanding that the Mac Pro does not support SLI in OS X, so 2x 7300's just means you can connect four monitors, it doesn't mean they'll be running in SLI mode.

Who Is Running A Mac Pro Now?
11-26-2006 05:29
hehehe /me ponders the engineering of well fitting bras... I don't know anyone who actually has a Mac Pro running SL. But talking to Apple and reading the forums, I believe either card will work and will be blazingly fast. Ask Santa for the ATI. Be VERY happy if you get the NVidia The ATI's take longer to prepare and ship, so you may not get a choice if Santa must deliver by 25 December! :0

Best thing I ever did was to max the memory to 2GB. SL flies. I don't understand all the techie things about fps but I know that I can have waves on the sea, can move well even with 15 or so people in my Inn (Isle of Faerun) and I'm able to see a long way away. Go for it love! And the MacBook Pro is just so good for everything else too. NB The White Hart Inn is a 14th century sim so none of our avies wears bras. They were invented aroiund the turn of the 19/th20th century though different people are credited: see http://inventors.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://home.nycap.rr.com/useless/brassiere/index.htmlI once went to a fancy dress party with my bf: I was the Bishop and he was the Actress. I had to extend the strap on one of my bras for him. His comment was 'My God! it's like wearing a rucksack too high up and too tight.' 'If you say so dear' was my response. 'So lets have less moaning when I go braless, okay?' Bu-boom! Christi
