I just heard about and signed up for this and cannot get it to do anything but freeze my whole system. I have re-booted 9 times and repaired permissions twice to no avail. The reaction to movement is slow and jerky for the brief time I have been in, but ultimately freezes even though I am doing no more than just trying to 'look' around and walk.

So far, I am not impressed and not having any fun! :(

I am on OSX, 10.3.9, (G4) which is supposedly supported. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Seems like it would be fun if it would work, but not worth the trouble if it is this much trouble.

HIYA LANI :)

Sowwies that sounds like it sux a lot. Do know that SL is usually a lot smoother, right now there's just been a major upgrade and things are still ruff. If you've seen a lot of gray inworld, that's part of it. Canya list more computer specs in detail? I'm no Mac expert (I used to be) but it'd help to lay it all out... like what graphics card do you have, how many MHz on the G4, RAM? Etc.

Hi Lani, I'm on a G4 and doing fine. It should work great for you.

Like Torley said, the major update they just did isn't helping. So once 1.7.1 comes out, you'll probably get a better feel for the game.

I'm not sure why you are crashing so much. That shouldn't happen. I can only guess that something on your system is conflicting with SL. I run SL on a G4 1.4 dual, a G4 867mhz tower, AND a G4 800mhz iMac with very few crashes. (note: LL says it should be 1000mhz minimum, but it still works on my slower systems, although not as fast)

But, like Torley said, let us know more specs so we can help you better.

...hiya lani...

...don't give up on SL just from the abominous first impression - my understanding is the that it'll take up to a week or two for all the new 1.7 kinks to get worked out, but i have no doubt that everything will be smooth in time...i'm running a fairly new mac, myself, and i can't maintain any sort of usable session at all at the moment...SL is very demanding on *any* system, and while you shouldn't expect it to perform like a silky-smooth FPS, no one gets that sort of performance - your system's probably perfectly fine as long as you have at least a 1GHz processor, 512 megs RAM (although a gig's really preferable), and 64 megs VRAM (i'm not sure if any of the old 32 meg cards would be up-to-task)...
...you just picked an awkward time to dip your toes in the water, that's all...
