Mac Pro Nehalem won't run SL

Late last night my new Mac Pro "Nehalem" was set up. To be specific, it's a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. It comes with the NVIDIA GeGorce GT 120 graphics card.

I downloaded the latest (official) version of SL (1.22.11). Upon attempting to start up SL, I saw a blue message "We don't recognize your graphics card, but no problem, we probably just haven't had a chance to test it, SL should run fine."

Sadly, it does not. It won't even run. Crashes at every opening, including after an attempted reset of preferences (one of the auto messages I got).

My next step is to try an older version of SL.

If anyone is interested in the crash log, I'll try to find it.

That doesn't look good. It seems that a viewer update from Linden might be needed for compatibility (not that it's the first time that would be the case).

looks like it cant find settings_per_account.xml and then it goes bang. take a look with finder, does the folder /Users/rae/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings/ exist ?

Can you read/write in the folder?

Have you tried to reinstall using the Admin account (1st account created after you installed OS X).

My 2.66 4 core early 2009 Nehalem Macpro and a GT 120 gave me the same pop up warning too. But I didn't click on it to see if it would crash. Instead I just draged secondlife back to my main middle monitor which is an ATI 4870 and quit nicely then rebooted. (I've settled on a draw distance of 104 meters with the 4870).

Three weeks ago in the message above this one, I said that I've settled on a draw distance of 104 meters with the ati 4870 in my early 2009 2.66 Nehalem 4 core Mac Pro.

But now as of 1 hour ago, I have settled on a draw distance of 184 meters.

In a test 2 hours ago to see if I could fix a once every two days or so bluetooth mighty mouse freeze problem, I just tried toggling all the mysterious check marks in the bluetooth control panel and the ones in its advanced section too. Things checked on, I checked off, and things checked off, I checked on.

I was ready to wait for a few days to see if the bluetooth mighty mouse freezing has stopped. But I also immediately felt an unusual snappy freshness to the whole computer. Then after about 5 mins, I wondered if this fresh snappiness feeling will be felt in secondlife as well. It did very much so. So I've now settled on a draw distance of 184 meters with the ati 4870.

I'm too lazy to confirm it. Or learn what all the bluetooth setting do, sorry.

I have the ultimate solution to remedy all your problems.

My G4 runs SL like a champ. Honest!

No indication I can see in the log why it crashed. The missing xml files are normal at the first start, they will be created automatically. Also the vectorize and cube map warnings are normal.

What is the last in the log before it crashes?

Hi all...

After trashing preference files, I was at least able to get into SL. But that first week, it was a mess. I crashed all the time, nothing rezzed, I couldn't TP... it was like the worst problems got worse.

Then... suddenly, everything started working. NO changes were made in that time. I didn't switch to RC and SL didn't update their software (that we know of).

But ever since that first week of hell, things are so smooth it's uncanny. In fact SL is running better than it ever has in the 2 years I've been here. So I dunno what SL does in the background while we sleep at night (lol), but something happened that made everything work again.

Thanks Lindens, whatever you did... and I wish I could tell you all that I found the thing that made it work, but I have no idea...!
