Hey All!,
I have a 23" ACD and 2 times in the last month it has crashed while playing 2L. What happens is the the screen begins to fill with blue pixels in the shadow areas, then the screen begins to blink. The blinking becomes faster to the point the monitor becomes completely blank. I took it into Apple and they fixed it 4 weeks ago then last week it happened again!! Now its back with the "genius" crew.
Anyone have this prob? I hate to think I can't use my 23 incher with 2L.
(BTW it's hooked up with a 2008 Mac Pro w/ Duel Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors)
Thanks,
BD

I've got the 23in Cinema Display and have no issues with it running SL what so ever, though I am not running intel (am trying to avoid that for as long as I can get away with it) so it could be an intel issue and not a monitor deal (though no real idea personlly).
Hope you get it resolved

Those screen artifacts sound like a video card issue, but I can't imagine the Apple folks overlooking that when they were troubleshooting. I believe your video card is integrated, so they may have to pull the logic board to test this - but that's way out of my area of expertise. Good luck!

I agree with Stage, it doesn't sound much like a monitor issue to be honest. I find frequently when I open SL that I get strange screen artefacts in the viewer window before it displays its background, which I believe to be something to do with leftover OpenGL data on the graphics card.
But it is much more likely to be a GPU issue than a monitor one, what graphics card do you have in your Mac Pro? I've got the GeForce 8800 GT and it's fine running SL on both my HDTV (main) and Apple 20" Cinema Display (second) screens.

Thanks All,
I would have thought it was a graphics card too, except Apple told me to pick up my tower the first time and they sent the monitor out to be fixed. And it was when I got it back, then 3+ weeks later the same thing happend while in world. Let me add that the monitor gets super hot while I play, almost too hot to touch. I felt like I was buring the thing out while in 2L. Not nearly as bad while in other apps.
BTW, the v-card is ATI Radeon HD 2600xt 256mb.
p.s: The second time I brought it in, last week, they could not duplicate the problem and thought it may NOW be a tower issue. So when I picked it up there was a 1/2 inch stratch on the screen so they gave me a NEW monitor. So far I have not pushed it, only spending short periods of time in world.
Cheers,
BD

Hmm, the heat does sound strange, my 20" gets pretty warm, but not close to uncomfortably hot to the touch. Obviously a 23" will generate more heat, but it shouldn't be a huge amount a more.
I suppose as long it's still under warranty/apple-care you probably /should/ push it to see if it happens again, it may be annoying to keep taking things in but at least you should get it fixed in the end, and it'll be free.
