I was given a new MACBook 3 days ago after being a PC person for many many years. And, now that my laptop is mine and not "company" property I am able to roam the Internet as I please. I have always wanted to explore Second Life!

Each time I have logged into the application is has frozen my laptop in less than a minute. I'm sure there is a very simple fix but I am a total MAC novice and have no idea where to start.

PLEASE HELP!!

Try using OnRez or Cool SL client.

I use a Mac, and I used to use a lap top without any problems, well other than lag, but that was due to the lap top graphics card, not SL. There shouldn't be anything special you need to do to get it running, Mac being user friendly and all. If it's crashing regularly I'd just try re downloading the SL client and see if that fixes things.

Did you get a white (plastic) Macbook or one of the new (aluminum) Macbooks?

Then you have an Intel GMA950 or GMA3100 GPU. It's about the worst graphics processor you could have from the point of Second Life. It's usually not AS bad on the Mac, because Apple uses a hybrid (software/hardware) OpenGL implementation to make up for the GMAxxx's shortcomings, but it'll never be good. And you could be tickling something Apple doesn't *quite* fix up.

hmm... I use the black MacBook when I travel. You'll always have issues with things rezzing slowly or in crowds seeing grey people, but I haven't had issues crashing. Mine has the max 2GB of RAM installed...that might help. I know the black one was a bit more powerful than the white ones...not sure if they have the same video card.

/me really really wants ones of the new aluminum ones with 256mb video memory....
