I am spending xmas with my mother and she has an Imac G4. I have never used a macintosh in my entire life :)

So I found the system profiler which I believe tells me the mac meets the minimum requirements. I clicked the mac download link on the web page and it downloaded and appeared to automatically install SL.

I now have a folder on the desktop called Second Life with 4 icons in it. The SL hand, a tga file, the release notes and the LSL guide.

Double clicking on the hand causes SL to briefly flash down on the bottom bar thingy. I opened the tga file and it said to drag the hand to the applications folder, which I did. But it produces the same results.

Amazingly, I managed to find the crash log. I was so proud of myself! I'm thinking that SL didnt install correctly or I am missing a system DLL that second life needs. Either way here is the crash log. If someone could help me with my SL addicition I would be *eternally* grateful!

dyld: /Users/gailhelms/Desktop/Second Life.app/Contents/MacOS/Second Life can't open library: /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

Thankyou again!

OK I worked out the mac only as 10.3 not 10.3.9. So I'll go update to the latest version and wander on back if I have any more problems

Installing SL on a Mac

Hello Cat,
When you download a SL MAC client it comes in as a disk image file. If your browser is set up with the option to open friendly files it will automatically launch this file. If not then you have to double click it to open. This will expand and mount the disk image on your desktop. It will be on the upper right side and look like another hard drive. It will also open the Disk image drive and show you four files inside. This is what you are describing. Next bring up your finder and open the Application folder. Create a new folder inside of the Application folder - you can call it anything, I like "Second Life". Next grab and drag the four files from the Disk image folder and move them onto new folder you created. As this is a disk to disk transfer it will copy the files instead of just moving them. Now you have the SL files on your hard drive. Now open up the folder you just created and you should now see the four files. Double clicking on the SL hand icon will launch Second life. The first time you launch it, it will take a little longer as it's making preference files and temp stuff. You should now have the SL login page.
Hope this helps. Gator
