UPDATE: Now occurs in the normal viewers too, not just WL ...

Hi all.

I run a quad 2.66ghz xeon Mac Pro with 5GB RAM and an ATI Radion X1900. Running Mac OS 10.5.1.

Second Life runs lovely, Onrez viewer runs lovely, and until recently Second Life Windlight ran lovely too. This last week and a half (ish) though, when the Windlight viewer is running and focused, the entire of my display will go black (not just SL, my whole screen). I hear iTunes playing, but everything is unresponsive. The only way 'out' of it is to shut down my machine. I have to reboot about 4-5 times before the fans calm down and the machine begins to search for the startup screen (and the screen goes white).

I've been trying different graphics settings to see what is causing it, still doing so. My macbook (below minimum requirements according to Windlight, interestingly) and its running Windlight just fine. Again, on Mac OS 10.5.1. The Macbook has a GMA 950 in it.

I've scoured the Apple Discussion forums to see if it's something wrong with my Mac Pro rather than the Windlight viewer, but noone seems to have heard of the problem.

Of interest, the fans of my Mac Pro have been running consistently fast (and quite loud) while Second Life is running (or unhidden) since upgrading to Leopard.

It's very worrying that this is happening, and I really want to find a solution*… *ANY* help or relating is most welcome!

:)

That avoids the problem rather than finding a solution to it. I finding it concerning that the problem occurs on my Mac Pro but not on my Macbook ...

Ran disk repairs from the Leopard install disk (boot+Ckey), opened Windlight again, ran for 10ish minutes (like before) and crashed. Black screen.

Macbook still runs perfectly.

Help :S

Sorry... I'm a big believer in avoidance. :D

The normal viewer is running so comparatively well on my MBP right now that I don't dare run Windlight until I hear everyone saying it's perfect on every permutation of the Mac. :)

As of today this problem has begun happening on the main Second Life viewer too. I havent upgraded to the new release yet, i'll do that now and see if it improves things.

Heeeelllppp =/

EDIT: of interest, I was on the phone to apple for hours today and after much testing and tibkering, they came to the conclusion that it is definately SL thats the problem, not my mac. I mean, I changed nothing on my compy, especially not on the default viewer ..

Shocking.. I left SL idle for hours, no crash. I went back to using SL, 3 crashes in a space of about 30 minutes.

Eep :(
