What causes my viewer to jerk and pause entire computer for whole minutes?

I have an iMac 24" intel with 2.16mhz and 2gb ram.

The virst ook viewers always seem to be fine but the main viewers always jerk horribly when i turn left or right, and in some cases my entire computer freezes up to over a minute before letting me back in control, at which point my avatar has traveled half way across the sim becos i was not able to stop it.

Does anyone else have the same issues? and does anyone have any ideas why it is so we can inform the Lab?

i have the same problem on my machine, i belive it's caused by the client fighting over gl mem with the window server, lowering the video mem size in sl will work around it but things may run a little slower

edit: this issue is in jira as VWR-914

I too get this behavior. SL literally will take over the entire computer, even the clock doesn't move. It happens less now that I run SL on my main monitor instead of my second one but it has not gone away by any means.

My machine;

Quad g5 with 8GB of Ram, running two monitors via an nVidia Quadro FX 4500. The OS is current at 10.4.10 on a fairly fresh install (less than 2 months).

There is clearly more than enough horsepower to make SL run like a top if it were capable of doing so. :)

Yep, turn your video RAM in SL to half of what you actually have. This works around the problem.

As mentioned above, see VWR-914 in Jira. The Lindens seem aware of it so it should be fixed eventually.

Also, don't use Wi-Fi.
I went back to Ethernet cable and the problem you describe vanished.
Byee!
