Hello Everyone! I'm new to SL and the forums, and I need some assistance. I dowloaded SL onto my MAC, it showed up on my desktop, but even though I double clicked the hand icon it doesn't open -- it starts to open and just stops. Can anyone help?

I'm not a Mac user and don't know how your firewall works, if you even have one, but if you do, check to make sure it's allowing SL.

Have you tried re-installing SL from the .dmg file? seems to have worked for a few other people. I'm no techie, but if you say which Mac you've got it might help with answers.
Good luck SS.

Same thing sometimes

Stellar I get the same problem from time to time running a G5. I click on the icon and it just bounces along at the bottom of my screen. When it starts this I have to force quit the program once or twice and it will work fine after that. It also sorts itself out sometimes if you wait a few minutes or so... the UI will pop up after a long pause. Only other thing I can suggest is reinstalling the software. Good luck.

Stellar, has it ever launched for you? It may be that the settings for SL are messed up. Go in your home folder, and look for the Library folder. Inside that is the Applications Support folder, and inside that is a folder called SecondLife. Put that SecondLife folder in the trash and then try running SL.
Good luck!

First time for me took two starts...

Opening the SL program my first time, it acted just as yours did. I force killed it and then tried again... Looked like lots of network activity in the background. I suspect that a bunch of activity happens with downloading and authentication the first time you start. (but could just be voodoo theory)
After tossing the library's SL folder in the trash (see comment above), and restarting SL, give it five minutes. Then, if it hasn't started, kill it and try again.

So, I went into the Applications Support Folder and there is no SL folder. And when I try to force quit SL after I've opened it, it doesn't even show up as a program running. I appreciate you guys trying to figure this one out for me, because I'm stumped! Thanks again.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but have you actually installed the program rather than just downloading the masterfile? I really apologise if you have, its just that if SL doesn't show as a program running then it isn't there... Again, very sorry if you have.

Aye make sure you copied the file to your Applications folder before trying to run SL.

Maybe your computer doesn't meet something in the SL specs?
