Any Mac Music SLers Here? Need help with streaming.

Hi,

Any Mac Music SLers here? Does anyone know alternative streaming server options besides Live365 and FastServ that work with Macbook Pro OSX 10.4.11? I stream with Nicecast and they recommend those two, (someone said they were using Nicecast then Shoutcast as the external server, but Nicecast says that won't work and it doesn't for me) but I can't do Live365 ads and FastServ is about $40/mo. Just wondering if there are any less expensive alternatives w/o ads?

I read somewhere that someone in SL is providing streaming server service for $14/mo but now I can't find where I read that, and I don't know if that is just for PCs.

Hey Eliyora, I'm using a Powermac G4 with Mac OSX 10.4.11 running Nicecast 1.9. If you do a search in-world for "shoutcast" you will find many services available for streaming audio. most places are around L$3K-4K/mo for 100 listeners at 128Kbps. Be sure to check out Project X, they rent streams by the week or month.

Edward Lowell and The Stream Team is another in-world stream provider that I and others have had good luck with. And I stream from an old grey iMac half the time.

I like Nicecast because it plays off my iTunes.I use a 64kds stream for 50 listeners from Second Life Stream. Its 2600L a month. Just teleport to the store and pay the box http://slurl.com/secondlife/Monowai/144/176/0. If you need help starting your encoder just drop IM me and I will talk you thru it.

As a live musician in SL, I stream using my MacBook Pro all the time. I use Nicecast like everyone, and for the stream I can tell you probably 10 different people who offer in-world services that are inexpensive as referenced above. Just do a search in-world for "streaming". All you do is get the URL, port, and password, pl;ug those into the server settings in Nicecast, and make sure the media on your parcel is set to the stream address listed. Boom, you're done.

While I mostly stream live audio direct from my microphones, I can also use Nicecast to easily stream from an app like iTunes.
